Residents enjoying Fun Day

Getting Involved

At WWHA we want residents to get involved at all levels of decision making - we call this 'resident participation'.  How involved you get is up to you.

What is Resident Participation?

Resident participation is simply "getting involved" by giving us your views about your home and your community, on the issues that are important to you.

TPAS, the independent Tenant Participation Advisory Service, describes it as "a two-way process involving both residents and their landlords in the sharing of ideas, enabling residents to influence decisions regarding the management of their homes".

Why is getting involved important?

  • Because it gives you a real say in your housing services.
  • You will be able to play a part in the decisions that affect your home and local community.
  • You can learn new skills.
  • Getting involved can be fun! You can meet other residents and do new and interesting activities.
  • Participating is satisfying. You can be part of achieving things that can really benefit your community or communities across Wales.

How can I get involved?

We understand that everyone's lives are different and so the amount of time you may want to spend participating or the ways you want to get involved will vary.  There are some participation methods that can require more commitment and time than others. To help you decide which ways are better for you we have created the following guide:

Resident Participation Options at WWHA

Below is a little more information about the various ways of getting involved at WWHA.

Area improvement plans
Residents can give their views through a variety of methods, not just formal meetings, where they can identify what are the most important and necessary improvements for their estate, which are then put into a plan and dates set for completion.

Clued up networks
Residents who are involved, or who are thinking of becoming involved, in local residents' groups are invited to attend 'clued up' sessions, which are informal, local sessions where you can find out more about a variety of issues.

There are currently four clued up networks - Bridgend, South Wales valleys, Cardiff and North Wales. At a clued up network you can:

  • Meet and pick up tips from other residents
  • Take part in information sessions on issues such as antisocial behaviour, planned maintenance or service charges.

Community action groups

If you have a project idea but don't want to commit to running a residents' group, you could be part of an informal group set up for as long as your projects takes to complete. Our four Community Development Project Officers can help you with all stages of the project, from finding out what residents would like to do, to planning the project and applying for grants.

Estate agreements

Estate agreements are formed when residents come together to decide how they want to live peacefully on their estate or scheme. The residents decide the terms they think are fair. An issue that could be addressed, for example, is children playing ball games in the street.

Group 500

Group 500 is now the main way that residents can give us their views. You can be contacted by a method that suits you, to give your views on issues you care about. Group 500 members are consulted about all major issues. Anti social behaviour, service charges and Christmas opening hours are just a few of the topics members have already given us their views on.

"Make it happen" grant
This is a grant for you to put on activities where you live. The grant is in two parts:

New or developing residents' groups can apply for up to £500.
Existing residents' groups can apply for up to £200.

Site audits
Site audits allow you to accompany your Housing Officer and Asset Management Officer on inspections of your estate/scheem to identify issues that concern you.

Other ways you can give us your views
When we provide a specific service to you, such as fitting a kitchen or carrying out a repair, we will make sure that we ask your views on how it went and what you thought of our services.
