Why join WWHA?

Help us make WWHA a great place to work
We know that our people want five main things from us at WWHA:

  • To be treated with trust and respect
  • A manager who listens and helps
  • An interesting job
  • An opportunity to get on
  • To make a difference to our customers and the communities in which they live.

Our aim is to reflect the communities we serve and mirror the workforce that we recruit from. We try and make sure everyone can work in a way that suits their circumstances. We support flexible working, offering part-time roles and encourage job-sharing opportunities.

A real opportunity to get on
Everyone who works here is encouraged to broaden their experience and work in different areas of the Association. We want people who are willing to learn and want to be the best they can be.

Our commitment to our people is that we will give them the opportunity to receive the training and support they need to do their job and to develop their careers at WWHA. There are a number of ways our people can achieve this, through participating in a range of learning and development activities, from core skills training, improving technical ability, enhance behavioural skills to leadership and management opportunities. Staff can also study for a qualification whilst at work, for which there is also funding available.

Our culture

We never take anyone for granted
Our customers don't have to choose one of our homes or services. We want to do absolutely everything we can to make living in one of our properties, or using one of our services, the most positive experience possible. Our aim is to make our residents and service users happy and to fulfil our mission "to be the first choice for homes and services".

We also know that if we look after our people and treat our colleagues with trust and respect they will look after our customers. That's why so many of our people stay with us for so long.

It's everyone's job here to help our customers, whenever and however they can. If that strikes a chord, we'd love to hear from you.

Real people, telling it like it is...
For a personal view of what makes WWHA a great place to work, check out the "Quotes from staff" section. Here you can read some interviews with team members - living, breathing examples of the people who define our culture.

What we look for

WWHA people are easy to spot because they're:

  • Passionate about the community
  • Focussed on the customer and striving to understand them better than anyone
  • Committed to treating people in a fair and consistent way
  • Willing to roll their sleeves up to get things done
  • Motivated to work in partnership with others, internally and externally

If you match this profile, we'd love to hear from you.

Our values underpin the above but also focus on how we do things:

  • Open
Open to change, committed to continuous improvement and learning.
    Transparent, honest and trustworthy.
  • Efficient
Make best use of resources and maximise the impact of our activities.
  • Fair
Balanced, giving praise where due and constructively critical. Inclusive in our approach, respecting the dignity and individuality of everyone.
  • Responsible
Professional, challenging existing arrangements, taking ownership of issues and using our initiative to see them through to resolution.
  • Supportive
Easy to deal with, approachable and accessible. Welcoming, caring, listening and responsive.

Learning & development

Be the best you can be...
Our commitment to our people is that we will give them the opportunity to receive the learning and development they need to do their job and to develop their careers at WWHA. We want WWHA to be a great place to work for all our staff. That's why we want everyone here to feel free to follow the career path that's right for them.

There are a number of ways we support our people to acheive this, be it through a role specific Learning Directory, attending our dedicated Learning & Development centre, participating in classroom facilitated learning, e-learning or on the job learning. Our People Management suite of activities equips our line managers to support and develop their people. Leadership and management development is available to all staff with a variety of learning solutions to suit everyone. We encourage the studying for a qualification whilst at work, for which funding is available.

Everyone is welcome

Our success depends on people and we recognise that we are all different and diverse. We believe we can't afford to be complacent around diversity issues and are continually working on initiatives to attract people from all backgrounds.

We aim to employ people who reflect the diverse nature of society and we value people and their contribution, irrespective of age, sex, disability, sexual orientation, race, colour, religion or ethnic origin.

We also try to make sure everyone can work in a way that suits their circumstances - we support flexible working, offering part-time roles and encouraging job-sharing opportunities.

Diversity in action
As Age Positive employers, we are recognised for our positive and successful policies, which include encouraging staff to work beyond retirement age. It is attitude and ability - not age - that makes for great service for our customers. In 2008 we became a Stonewall Cymru 'Diversity Champion'. Stonewall is an organisation which promotes equality and specifically concentrates on issues which may affect lesbian, gay and bisexual people. We look forward to working with Stonewall and making future improvements in this area. As award winners for Diversity in the Workplace in 2007 we are recognised for the proactive work we undertake to develop employment skills within the local minority ethnic communities. Working in partnership with local communities has attracted people to join our organisation.

In short, we're as diverse as you make us.
